Micro SIDs: A Solution for Efficient Representation of Segment IDs in SRv6 Networks

The Segment Routing (SR) architecture is based on source routing. Within an SR enabled network, a list of instructions called segments can be added to the packet headers influence forwarding and processing packets. In SRv6 (Segment over IPv6 data plane) are represented with addresses, which 16 bytes long. There some service scenarios that may require carry large number in headers. Reducing size these overheads useful minimize impact MTU (Maximum Transfer Unit) enable legacy hardware devices limited capabilities could suffer from long this paper we present Micro SID solution for efficient representation segment identifiers. proposed has been implemented three different architectures (VPP, Linux, P4) interoperability tests have performed. We also analyze reduction header achieved SIDs compare it other proposals compression. Our results show reduced up 75%. Finally, mention fundamental asset full compatibility seamless existing architecture.
